Following basic surgical training in London, Susan attended the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, Imperial College of London, and completed a PhD in Molecular Biology. Her research focused on cartilage proteins and their response to mechanical injury.

She became a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at RNOH, specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery, in 2013. The trust is referred many challenging cases, including revision arthroplasty and complex instability.
